Permits :India
All these states on the northeast of India have sensitive borders. Foreigners require permits to go to Sikkim and Meghalaya. There are no such restrictions on Indian passport holders, although even they are not allowed into certain border areas.
Foreigners can apply for permits from Indian missions abroad. However, they should do so well in advance as their application will be forwarded to New Delhi for clearance in the Home Ministry and the reply relayed back to the mission.
DARJEELING
Until recently restricted area permits were needed to visit Darjeeling. Kalimpong and other places in the northern districts of the state ol West Bengal. This is no longer true.
