MATHERAN
Most hotels are tree-shaded, old-fashioned tin or slate-roofed bungalows. There is something to suit most pockets but during the season many hotels include meals in their tariff.
Rugby Hotel, Vithalrao Kotwal Road. The best of the old British hotels. The Parsi owner now caters to a mainly Hindu clientele.
The Byke, next to Municipal Office . Brightlands Resorts, Maulana Azad Road . This well-run bungalow-style hotel has seven acres of grounds, its own dairy, a tennis court and stables. Non-vegetarian. Tords Central . The most famous non-vegetarian establishment. Run by the likable proprieter Jamshed S Lord. Royal Hotel, Kasturba Road. Usha Ascot, M G Road . Hotel Alexander, Madhavji Road . Hotel Regal Kasturba Road . Many hotels close during the monsoon, the exception being Brightlands.
